So this week the US is grappling with the Supreme Court ruling that the President has absolute immunity from criminal charges for “official acts.”
What I’m reading by supporters of the decision is that nothing has changed where impeachment and removal from office still applies.
Here’s the problem with that assessment. Removal from office is not justice for crimes. Removal from office is analogous to getting fired from your job when they find out you committed a crime. That’s not justice either. If someone commits a crime and they are fired from their job that doesn’t stop prosecution for the criminal act. If the President commits a crime under cover of an official act, Congress impeaches and removes, then the President is immune to criminal prosecution due to absolute immunity for official acts.
What next? The US is becoming the banana republic akin to every democracy south of the border. The model of failure I see the most in the media today is the President becomes a dictator. That’s not the only failure model. Another one is that the President becomes beholden to organized crime such as with the drug cartels in Mexico.
My recommendation if you are wondering what’s next as the US government continues to collapse is to look south of the border.
How does Irreni Society handle a President’s power?
Irreni Society has no President. Irreni Society eventually has no local, state, or federal government. Irreni Society has two fundamental structures: MGOs and projects.
Where is the governing then? Where is the power the President currently wields?
First MGOs are nations as far as sovereignty over its members goes. Since MGOs are fixed-size thirty people that means there are hundreds of millions sovereign governments. The President’s powers are distributed across millions of MGOs.
A fundamental principle of the design of Irreni Society is that hierarchy doesn’t scale. One person cannot possibly know enough to make good decisions in this high-tech information age. Therefore hierarchy is eliminated in all but the smallest of scales, the MGOs themselves. Projects are considered recipes of work to be done with specific objectives and limited life.
If we want to fix the Presidency problem we have to first identity root cause: hierarchy.
